An article in The Guardian indicates that the economy is ripe for plastic surgery. The data show that buttocks enhancements are among the top 10 cosmetic procedures in America. Here’s everything you need to know about Brazilian butt lifts and buttock augmentation in general.

What is Buttock augmentation?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) says, “Buttock augmentation surgery, sometimes referred to as a Brazilian butt lift when fat transfer is involved, uses implants, fat grafting or sometimes a combination of both to increase the size of your buttocks.”

This is a very popular choice among those who want to improve their derriere’s appearance, with a 2015 press release from ASPS indicating that in 2015, a buttock procedure was being performed every 30 minutes of each day of the year. Of this figure, buttock augmentation with fat grafting made up 14, 705 procedures, with buttock lift and buttock implant procedures tallying at 4,767 and 2,540, respectively.

According to the ASPS, the procedures are used for a number of reason, including increasing the appearance of the buttock in line with its fullness, roundness, and projection; enhancing self-image and self-confidence; and finally, improving the balance of one’s figure.

What are the advantages of a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is popular for a reason. Traditional buttock implants rely on materials such as gel silicone implants and water-based implants, which would be inserted into the body. Introducing a foreign object to the body may have dangerous side effects, particularly when the implants rupture.

On the other hand, the BBL relies on the patient’s own fat to improve the appearance of the buttock. The process is also called “fat transfer” or “fat grafting,” wherein unwanted fat from the other parts of the body is removed and grafted into the buttock. The fat can come from the patient’s hips, abdomen, flanks, thighs, and waist – all problem areas that most people are trying their best to tone. With the help of BBL, patients can then enjoy having perkier and rounder bottoms while at the same time enjoying having a more sculpted silhouette.

What should you expect from BBL?

At the Advanced Image Med Spa, Dr. Jennessa Iannitelli would use a procedure called “High Definition Liposuction” to remove fat deposits from the places mentioned above. The fat is then sent through a sterile closed system transferring it to the buttocks. The procedure, therefore, successfully removes excess fat from problem areas while increasing and improving the appearance of the butt.

Of course, each person’s expectation is different. Patients also have different body types and would sometimes require more complex procedures to arrive at their desired outcome. For this reason, a consultation is being offered at the EIMS to help patients make the decision to undergo a BBL. Patients are screened to ensure that they are good candidates for the procedures they want, while realistic expectations about the procedures are made. This way, both the staff and the patient would have a clear picture of the desired results so that the procedure could be planned properly.
